Seeing the photos above, it's quite easy to assume that working backstage is all fun, especially when you're surrounded by (some of) the most beautiful beings on earth.
But I'm sure it's not as fun as you think it is. I haven't really been backstage at any fashion show, but I've seen some backstage coverage. While it could be exciting because you're among the first to see the season's collection and because of the adrenalin rush, it could also be quite stressful and intense - dressing the models, making sure every model has good makeup, seeing to it that all the clothes are perfect, (or at least appear to be).
In one of the photo shoots of Icon, I had to put shoes on two guys and two girls who are only in their undies. I had to be the one to put the shoes on the models, because the slightest crease or scratch on the shoes may result in unwanted shelling out of money. And some of the shoes cost as much as P25,000!
When I showed some of the behind-the-scenes photos to some friends, they were like, "Whoa!!! That looks fun! Did you flirt with any of the models?"
Yeah, sure it appears to be exciting being surrounded by gorgeous scantily clad men or women, but really, when you're there, you don't think of anything but making sure that the merchandise (and I'm referring to the shoes) look that they're really worth buying.
Still, being a dresser backstage is one job I would want to do.
Mr. Dolce, Mr. Gabbana, Mrs. Prada, are you reading this?
I'm writing about shoots because I have two shoots coming up this Friday and Saturday for work. The logistical preparation is such a nightmare (Suki, I now know what you feel), but I'm really looking forward to doing the shoots.
